From season 2017/2018 the points system changed so that the winner of each Major would receive 10 points, second 9 and all the way down to 10th place. the 10th place player therefore receives one point.
In the event of a tie at the end of the year the player who attended the most tournamnets would win
The points system from the 2010/2011 season until 2017/18 was as listed below, but was too complicated.
Only the top 10 golfers would score
points
1st would score 100% of the amount of players playing
(eg 40 players would equal 40x100/100 = 40 points
2nd would score 75% of the amount of players playing
(eg 40 players would equal 40x75/100 = 30 points
So that meant -
1st = 100%
2nd = 75%
3rd = 50%
4th = 40%
5th = 35%
6th = 30%
7th = 25%
8th = 20%
9th = 15%
10th = 10%
Prior to that every golfer picked up points. This meant that if there was 30 players the winner would get 30 points and the player finishing last would get 1 point
